    This is a photograph of the Narragansett Pier Casino in Rhode Island. In July 1899 a subcommittee appointed by the Senate Finance Committee met here to discuss and agree to the language for a bill that would established a gold standard for the United States.

    This circa 1904 black and white photograph depicts President Theodore Roosevelt's room in the new executive offices, later known as the West Wing. The construction of these offices were part of the 1902 Roosevelt renovation. The Cabinet Room is at right. A portrait of President Abraham Lincoln hangs above the fireplace mantel. The furniture was made by A.H. Davenport and Company of Boston. Presidents William H. Taft, Woodrow Wilson, Warren G. Harding, and Calvin Coolidge used the desk shown during their subsequent administrations.

    This black and white photograph of the Red Room from the Detroit Publishing Co. was taken around 1904 during the Theodore Roosevelt administration. The Red Room is one of three state parlors on the State Floor of the Executive Mansion named after a color, with the designated red dating as far back as 1845 and the James K. Polk administration. In 1902, President Roosevelt oversaw the first major renovation of the White House under the direction of renowned architect Charles Follen McKim of the New York firm McKim, Mead & White.
